PALEO PORN
I’m going to step outside the box with this one, but hang with me for a moment.
Human sexuality has been with us since the Garden. In this 21stCentury every avenue of communication has some outlet for exploiting our human weaknesses and strengths. Pandering to our deepest needs and desires, the world of modern sexuality covers the gamete (including sex trafficking and pornography in all its forms). Discovering one’s self was almost a right of passage for kids in the Western world. Sex and sexuality had been closely guarded. That was the cool thing about growing up in the 1960’s, the mystery of discovering the opposite sex. Oh, how times have changed!
Males more than females seem to be aroused by form and shape. The framers of our Capitol in Washington, D.C. understood this most deeply when they erected that 555 ft. monument to George W. It stands as an ever-present erect phallus facing the womb of the dome at the other end of the mall. The birth of a nation needed the parts and the framers gave us a reminder. Most of us though don’t worship the symbols.
This leads me to think about our ancestors. Anthropologists have taught that early humans were crude, unsociable creatures prone to violence with a multitude of superstitions, that these animists needed thousands of years in order to refine their pantheistic worldview in their approach to one-god-ism. We’ve discovered small figurines made of bone, stone or pottery in the form of the Venus woman all over the world. These articles are thought to be fertility symbols of these superstitious folks, whereby the unseen ‘mother’ forces would bless a birth or a planted field. I have another idea about them.
Paleo porn! Yep, I said it. These early women worked along side the males, but as small social groups became less mobile and more agrarian, the males still experienced the thrill of the hunt! Perhaps the little Venus figures kept those sexual urges alive while away on hunt. Remember, each was carved or molded to shape by someone. It took time and thought. So, maybe they were surrogates that could easily bring about an erection when fondled or stared at, in essence and reality, a form of paleo pornography! Surely something sexual had to be occurring in the their thoughts as they fashioned them. I know of men who carry around naked women photos. Would it be so alarming to think cavemen carried something too?
When we realize that of all the cave art, those cave drawings spanning ages back 25,000 years only depict a plethora of wild animals and not the human form, it’s not inconceivable that men carried with them something personally erotic, something symbolic of what awaited them on the return. Paleo porn seems plausible.
very inciteful! Why havent anthropologists or others thought about this?
